An auto-theatre performance based on ethnographic research carried out at the Mercado Oriental do Martim Moniz, Lisbon. Fragments from the life of a Chinese cook, Yen, a native of Fujian who works in the market, gave rise to the creation of this short ethno-fiction. In this piece, Yen's memories of Fujian are rearticulated in a way that seeks to penetrate the surface of our own 'ethnic' performances, reconsidering modes of cultural fluidity and global connection.
Pedro Antunes is a Ph.D. in Anthropology, with a thesis on the revitalization of ritual death cults. His investigation explores processes of cultural transmission and social regeneration mediated by ritual performance and cultural heritage, both recaptured as systems of ontological regrouping. Through the production of immersive and embodied ethnographies about vital relations between the living and the dead, he deepened the knowledge of transformative imagination processes and forms of social and cosmic economy in the cultural area of Beira Baixa.
